Saving smiles - Dentist travels to eastern Europe to help orphans beat odds
Working with the Apex-based International Orphan Resource Center and the North Raleigh Rotary, Dr. Gabe Rich travels to orphanages around eastern Europe, fixing teeth neglected by a system with few resources that often views orphans as second-class citizens.
"A lot of them are afraid of the dentist, especially the ones who have had teeth pulled without anesthetic," Rich said.
Founded in 2005, the International Orphan Resource Center provides dental care and other services to orphanages in Russia and across eastern Europe.
